I'm a birth nerd

Hi, I'm Jess Spencer and I am the proud mother of two beautiful children and one wonderful stepson.

When I got pregnant with my first child, I became obsessed with everything to do with pregnancy, babies, labour, breastfeeding. I became a "birth nerd". I had a doula present at my birth and the bond we formed inspired me. I toyed around with the idea of becoming a doula but had no idea what steps to take.

Come to my second birth and I hired my doula again. Once again, she was a blessing and I was inspired to look into how to become a doula. I attended my DONA certified training course in April of 2016 and fell in love with being a doula.

I am driven to provide each family, whether they be a heterosexual, LGBTQ, or single parent family, the best birthing experience they can have. My goal is to ensure that each birthing person walks away from their birthing experience with positive memories.

It was the birth of my son that made me fall in love with labor, birth, and motherhood and inspired me to become a doula. I attended training through DONA in February 2016. I am at the begining of my journey as a doula, and i am so excited for what lies ahead.

Birth is beautiful. I see it as a natural process, that it is in some ways as much about your journey in becoming a mother as it is about bringing your baby into the world. While it is a natural process, I also believe that birth looks different for everyone and that all women should have access to the tools and resources they need to give birth in a way that feels right to her.

As your doula I will support you and your partner in your decisions about childbirth. I will provide continuous physical and emotional support to mom, provide encouragement and an extra set of hands, and do everything I can to ensure that both mom and partner feel comfortable and confident throughout the childbirth experience and beyond as you settle in as a new family.
